Local business Mewies & Co. steps up to help the homeless

Local charity The Bridge (East Midlands) has appealed to the community to help it cope with the huge increase in demand for its housing related advice, support and assistance services since the pandemic began. Their staff work tirelessly to support their clients to prevent and relieve their homelessness, but this dedication relies on the support of the local community.

The Bridge exists to develop sustainable housing solutions for individuals and communities through partnership, empowerment, and good practice and is excited to announce its newest collaboration which reaches to the sector of health and beauty - with the local luxury hair spa and destination salon, Mewies & Co. (Est 2019).

In direct response to its appeal, and seeing the impact that COVID has had locally, Mewies & Co. have stepped in to offer their destination hair, spa and wellbeing studio as a place to host a range of fundraising events, and continually promote The Bridge’s services to their clients in order come together to support the local community.

Jemma Mewies, co-owner of Mewies & Co, says “Since opening our salon, we have wanted to get involved with helping our local community, so we are delighted to be working with The Bridge. We want to help to raise more awareness to the crucial work they do. Firstly, we will be hosting a fundraising event at the salon this spring- and I’m proud to say a lot of the businesses in Mountsorrel are donating generous prizes for our raffle tickets. It’s great to bring the business community together to help others”.

Paul Snape, Deputy Chief Executive, comments “We are delighted to welcome Mewies & Co. into our family here at The Bridge; they have really stepped up and want to support us as much as they can to work towards our vision of seeing resilient, compassionate communities, where individuals thrive in safe and secure homes.

“Different sectors coming together locally enriches our offer and ensures that we are providing our essential services through sharing awareness in the heart of the communities, and that is starting in this destination salon in Mountsorrel.

“As the country recovers from the pandemic, and we begin to realise the full impact it has had locally, collaborating with businesses, other voluntary sector organisations and our local authority partners will pave the way to a stronger future for all.  Tackling community challenges together will bring about long-term, sustainable positive changes.”

The Bridge is looking to the local community and businesses to work in partnership to raise awareness and generate vital funds needed to meet the ever-increasing demand for its services. Whether it’s holding a fundraising event, a coffee morning, jumping out of a plane, or sharing our messages on social media, everyone can play a part.
