Charmaine's Story

“Before I contacted The Bridge, I was staying in a hostel because things weren’t good between myself and my Dad. The hostel recommended The Bridge.

“I was struggling to get food at the time, so The Bridge helped me with parcels, but also with the accommodation issues. I was being harassed by a male in the hostel at the time.

“It was quite scary back then, because I didn’t know where I was going to go and I didn’t know anybody. I was anxious when I went anywhere.

“They helped me with applications, paperwork and more. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them. They were there whenever I needed them; every day making sure I was ok.

“Back then, I thought that my future was going downhill. Now, I can see my future is just going to get better. I’m 36 weeks pregnant and I’m excited.

“I’m back living with my Dad, because The Bridge helped with mediation and I was able to work on my communication skills. The bond we have now is really good.

“In five years’ time, I hope to be in my own flat with my daughter, being happy and living our lives together. I understand the process of housing applications more now, so it seems more achievable.”
