Triage Services

What is it?

Charnwood Welfare Provision is an emergency service available to assist people in crisis who are without food/gas/electricity.

What can we help with?

  • Fuel vouchers
  • Food parcels for single people and families.
  • Hot food vouchers for George’s Fish and Chip Shop, on Leicester Road, for someone without cooking facilities.

How do we help?

Our friendly and knowledgeable Triage/reception staff will assess your current situation against the eligibility criteria and support you to make a CWP application where appropriate. It can take up to a maximum of 1 full working day for an application to be processed and a decision to be made.

Did You Know: 23% of parents with children aged 18 and under skip a meal due to a lack of money for food. Whilst 13% have gone without eating for a whole day in the last 12 months.

Who can access the service?

Charnwood Welfare Provision is available to those with legitimate cause and reason who meet the eligibility criteria below (proof of evidence is required for a successful application to be made):

  1. Eligible for means tested benefits (examples include: Income related ESA, Income based JSA, Income Support, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support and Universal Credit)
  2. Live in Charnwood
  3. Without money to purchase food or pre-payment fuel due to an emergency/ crisis?
  4. Since April 2018 this is your first or second time requesting help from Charnwood Welfare Provision
