Richard's Journey to Alternative Work

Richard was referred to the Moneywise Plus programme by his local Work Club. Richard had recently been made redundant after working in catering for the local authority for 30 years.

Richard lives with an acquired brain injury which affects how quickly he is able to complete tasks and recall information. Despite this, Richard has a determined attitude where he benefited from a lengthy career with the same employer.

Unfortunately, redundancy meant Richard was now trying to re-enter the job market without many of the essential skills employers are looking for. In addition to this, application and interview processes have also changed considerably in 30 years.

The Moneywise Plus Engagement Team supported Richard to identify what he wanted to achieve. His priorities were gaining digital skills followed by improving his financial skills. Richard engaged in a Moneywise Plus digital taster session to help him to begin to use a computer for the first time in his life and found this to be a positive experience.

Richard went on to attend regular one-to-one digital sessions to build his skills and he still receives support to help him develop and secure greater digital confidence. Richard is now applying for jobs online and successfully gaining interviews whilst still attending one-to-one financial skills support sessions to further develop his financial independence.
