Everyone working for us has the power to make a difference!

Communications and Engagement Officer

Description

Why work for The Bridge? There are a hundred reasons.

Maybe you’ve known someone suffer without help, or perhaps you’re tired of seeing the same new stories about homelessness? Join us and you can help change lives.

Everyone at The Bridge has heaps of energy and positivity, and we are lucky to say we start every day knowing we can make a difference to local people. We are a small charity, but we’re also a close-knit family that’s organised, focussed and driven.

There are loads of great benefits to working for The Bridge, such as the extra holiday days or the flexible working. However, these benefits are not why you join in the first place... Or why you stay. From day one you’ll receive all the training you need. Here, helping you develop your career and skills is a top priority. We value you, partly because it’s the right thing to do, but also because it really helps you achieve what you came to The Bridge for: changing other people’s lives for the better.

The Communications and Engagement Officer role is an exciting opportunity to make a powerful impact on The Bridge, continuing to grow the charity’s reputation and find new community engagement opportunities. By promoting the organisation's brand, activities, and supporter base, you will help the charity to sustain and develop its work, changing people’s lives for the long-term.

We are consistently striving to develop our services to achieve our vision of resilient, compassionate communities, where individuals thrive in safe and secure homes. We hold our services to the highest possible standard and are very proud of our track record in preventing and relieving homelessness.

The Communications and Engagement Officer will need an innovative mind and creative flair, holding responsibility for digital, editorial, creative, and operational activities for a variety of purposes. This creativity should allow you to achieve consistently engaging communications to maintain public interest, particularly on social media.

You will promote the organisation by ensuring our communications are influential, informative for a broad range of audiences. You will liaise with colleagues, the public, and the media to ensure that the brand continues its growth and influence, and that the key successes of the charity are shared far and wide. Partnership will be key, as the role will liaise closely with the Grants and Fundraising Coordinator to deliver community fundraising campaigns and continually increase public donations.

Proactivity is vital for this role, as your purpose will be to extent and identify new marketing and press opportunities. You should be self-motivated, forward-thinking and have a personable nature, ready to initiate and maintain relations with the community, case studies, partners, and the press.

The post-holder will have frequent contact with members of the local community, whether this be through community donations, presentations to promote our organisation, online contact, or case studies. Reflecting the values and quality of the organisations services is necessary, with the confidence to engage with people in an impactful and positive way.

For an informal chat about the role please call our main phone line and ask to speak to Jessica Metson, Communication & Fundraising Manager.

Application Process

If you are interested in applying to any of our vacancies, please download and complete the Application Form, listing the vacancies that you wish to be considered for.

Alongside the completion of this form, we would like you to record a short video (up to 2 minutes long) to help us find out a little more about you. We are passionate about our Values, so in your video we would love to hear you discuss a topic that you are passionate about too. This doesn’t necessarily have to be housing related; you could pick any topic at all, from football to science.

We care about finding the right people to join our team, and so your application will be graded against our Values; Quality, Respect, Empowerment, Positivity and Partnership. Remember, this is also a great chance for you to showcase your personality and your interests!

As this is a Communications role and making videos is within your remit, you will also be scored on the quality, planning and content of your video creation.

When you’ve completed your Application Form and video recording, you can email them to HR@thebridge-eastmidlands.org.uk, where applications will then be shortlisted for interview.

We would prefer for you to send us your video recording as a YouTube link. This is very easy and you can do this by setting up an account, uploading your video and saving it as ‘Unlisted’ – which means that only people you send the link to can see your video.

Check out our Top Tips for Filming a Video, to the right of this screen, to make sure you are sending in the best possible representation of yourself!

If you have any questions about the process or this particular role, you can contact us on 01509 260500 and ask for Jessica Metson, Communication & Fundraising Manager.
